I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE, AND IT NEVER FEELS OUT OF PLACE
Nyssa couldn’t sleep. She had stared at the ceiling waiting to fall asleep for hours now, though it felt like much longer. Nyssa’s lack of patience didn’t help the situation. She usually was out like a light, but tonight she just couldn’t manage to fall asleep. She couldn’t figure out a reason for why she couldn’t sleep, not that she cared at the late hour it was. She just wanted to be able to get to sleep, even if it was full of nightmares. Anything was better than the boredom she was experiencing at the moment.
She sat up in her bed, reaching underneath her mattress retrieving her dagger. She looked at it in the little light that filled the room. She always kept it near her or next to her at all times, she knew better than not to have it on her. You never knew when a monster would attack, or even scarier yet, another halfblood. It also gave her a little comfort to have it near her, to know that it was always there, at the ready for her to use. She turned the handle in her hand, looking at it carefully, examining every detail like it might be vital sometime in the near future. She never grew bored looking at it, though she had had it for years. She hardly ever grew bored looking at weapons, thinking in the silence on how to improve them and how to make them more efficient. Behind the interest she showed as she looked at a weapon, gears were moving in her head as she tried to figure out how it was made, who had made it, and how to improve upon it.
She put her dagger down, beside her and reached under her mattress once more, retrieving a picture. The photo was dog eared, but it was the only photo Nyssa had of her family. She could make out her brothers somewhat in the picture, though she had the entire picture memorized. She smiled weakly seeing her stepbrothers Kellan, Michael, and Ethan, and her half-brothers Cole and Seth. It had been so long since she had gotten to see her family, her mortal family at least. She saw plenty of her half-brothers around every day, but she did miss her mortal family, but she refused to let them get hurt because of her.
She glanced up at the smiling faces of her mother and stepfather and frowned. She moved her finger over the photo for a moment, letting it rest for a moment on her mother’s face, before removing her finger from the photograph. She took one last long look at the photo before folding it in half and sticking it back underneath her mattress. She sighed lightly, rolling onto her other side for a moment, thinking about whenever she lived with her family, and the fun they had. She missed those times, and she knew there never would be those times again, ever since her mother died at least.
She couldn’t stand just sitting in the dark anymore; she needed to do something, to make her think of something else. Her ADHD seemed to be in over drive at that moment, she grabbed her dagger and stuck it in a modified belt loop on the cameo shorts she was wearing. Most of her pants had this feature, so that her hands would be free when they needed to be, but she had quick access to her dagger when she needed it.
She moved quietly through the room, stopping to look in the mirror for a moment, only to see where her sneakers were. Once she found them, she slipped them on. For once, Nyssa’s clothing matched, not that she truly cared in the slightest. Both her short sleeved shirt and sneakers were black, and her shorts were cameo. She went to the door, opening it as quickly as she could, slipping through the small opening before closing it behind her. She would go for a walk around the ship she decided. What better way to clear her head?
As she made her way through the ship, she glanced around, once more examining the ship. She almost wished something would break on it, so she could work on it, fix it. She needed something to do, and she already missed the forges back at Camp Halfblood. Her mind drifted to the thought of the children of Vulcan at camp Jupiter. They must have a forge, she thought, if only I could get inside. Of course, she had never thought about Camp Jupiter’s forge, but she doubted they would really want the Greeks inside of it. She would have to investigate this she thought. She stopped abruptly hearing a noise, she reached for her dagger, her right hand already gripping the handle.
She peered around her, she didn’t see anyone, but that didn’t mean someone wasn’t there. She breathed slowly, looking around. She didn’t let fear show through her emotionless face, fear was an enemy’s best weapon against you, at least she thought so. She stayed silent, moving as quietly as she could when she heard the noise again. It was defiantly a person. She stood her ground for a moment, her curiosity getting the best of her. She had to know who or what was making the noise. She decided to stay where she was, who or whatever it was would effentually make its way there, and she would be ready, or at least she hoped she would be. She smiled weakly, maybe she wouldn’t be so bored tonight after all.word count: 932, tag: lucifer, notes: this should be fun^^
