ANYTHING ELSE:
despite always having attempted to run away from his demigodliness, andy has become quite a handy son of poseidon, learning to control a majority of his hydrokinesis. while it's practical applications are largely devoid, he is quite skillful. only recently has he been able to bend the water to form spears and tridents, actual weapons for usage. otherwise, he is almost always using his talent to improve the surf and accentuate his hobby.
outside of the ocean, andy rarely exhibits any sense of focus. he doesn't take training too seriously, nor does he care about the issues facing him. without his obvious flare around the ocean, one might believe him to be a son of aphrodite, or even mortal, in that his sparring is at such a subpar level. too little emphasis is placed on what really should matter, given his parenthood, and too much is centered around his hobby.

MOTHER/FATHER: elizabeth shaw
SIBLINGS: ---
PETS: a dolphin named "marina" who follows him
HISTORY:
the story of how poseidon and elizabeth shaw met was anything but original. she was a college girl on spring break, almost literally in her prime, out on the coast of florida, on a boat with some friends. looking out off the edge of the boat, liz almost swore she saw a man staring back at her. however, before she could double take, the boat hit a large, almost unnatural wave, and she fell off, plunging into the atlantic ocean. waking up, the woman was back in her room, the sun had gone down, and her only companion was a mysterious man, eerily similar to her last memory on the ocean. his explanation was obscure and concise, but his charm was enough for liz.
the two fell quickly into what can only be described as a spring break romance, and within two months of their relationship, elizabeth shaw found herself pregnant with this anonymous man's child. with no way to support herself as a student and her new child, whom she named andrew maro, maro derived from mar, the sea, liz was forced to drop out of college. with the little means she had left, the two moved to florida, in hopes that they could find the unidentified father. living on the beach for a short time, things seemed to work out perfectly. anytime they had a need, it seemed that the ocean would literally wash up something to satisfy it.
elizabeth shaw gave up on finding the father, and ended up falling into the life of a beach bum. it wasn't a practical or structured life for her child to grow up in, but it was his life nonetheless. from an early age, andy learned to appreciate the ocean and his apparent natural flair for surfing. periodically he would experience sensations of the waves protecting him, swearing there were water women helping him. of course, he wasn't believed by anyone, though his mother wasn't completely oblivious.
upon his thirteenth birthday, andy began to have frequent dreams and even more frequent visions in the ocean. finally, poseidon made contact in the form of a dolphin. dolphins and other sea creatures weren't foreign to andy, but this one made a point of sticking around near constantly. not a week after it's arrival, andy found himself being able to communicate telepathically with the dolphin, whom he named marina.
she explained to him about his father, and how he would be in danger if he didn't learn to control his gifts or find his way to some camp for others like him. andrew liked his life, and didn't feel any need to leave, so he chose to learn from marina how to use his gifts from his father. the hydrokinesis developed fast, having been unconsciously in action all his life, and it didn't take long for him to realize he could breathe underwater, and basically become invulnerable.
there were the occasional monsters that would sniff him out, but they were much less abundant than they should have been. marina explained to him that because he spent almost his entire life in the ocean, he was able to be shielded by his father and the ocean in general. however, the point came where he was putting his entire community at risk, and decided the best would be to find this camp. and so, with a backpack of rations, andrew departed from florida on the back of his dolphin, and was taken to this "camp half-blood".
upon arriving, he was very unimpressed and disinterested. he never imagined there would be so much structure, and pressure put on him. he was safe, but he was miserable. most of the time he would sneak away from any classes, and spend the day in the ocean with marina, just like he used to. but now it was more and more of a hassle, and punishments were almost not even worth it.
gradually he began to train and learn to use his hydrokinesis as a weapon, but only to appease those around him. even now, with the immersion into camp jupiter, an immersion he is not expecting much out of, he still has yet to find his passion. currently, the only force driving him is fear. fear of being rejected from the camp and being left to fend for himself. fear of disappointing his father, who took care of him without credit for so long.

ROLE-PLAY SAMPLE:
sorry about that last piece of shit. been a long time, didn't even think to word count it. this should be better. if its not, i might just hang up any chance of roleplaying again, because i'll have become an absolute failure.
Stress around camp had become overwhelming. Andrew was well aware of the severity of the situation, but he still had no semblance of responsibility. No one knew, but that was his biggest insecurities. His raising, as unorthodox as it was, left him with this unusual disability. In the face of inevitable devastation, the son of Poseidon was psychologically incapable of focusing on it. Every day, he tried to learn and develop tactics of a competent hero. Yet, day after day, he ended up bailing on these obligations, joining Marina in the bay.
The only benefit of that, as of yet, was the further development of his hydrokinesis. The exposure to other demigods and the minor legitimate training he had received had emphasized his control over his power. Now, not only was he able to manipulate the waves around him, but also call out and communicate with most sea animals, summon various, basic weapons out of water, and most recently, be able to breathe underwater. With those abilities at his side, he felt impossibly confident in the ocean, even more so than he always had growing up.
Unfortunately, less and less frequently was he even feeling good about anything. Being a child of the "Big Three", his identity was not obscure. At first, he ate up the attention. The whispers, the many questions, and the admiration were fantastic. Especially to his every swollen ego. But gradually, as the camp grew to realize his apathy and apparent worthlessness, the attention diminished, turning to weakly disguised irritation. And not unjustifiably. Everyone else worked hard and trained intensely around the clock. Those who had acted as friends began to spend less and less time around Andrew. The lack of companionship wasn't unnoticed by the son of Poseidon either, triggering a conscious need for change.
Even Marina had started to worry about him. This could be the end of the world, Andrew. You need to learn to play a successful role in the war. Dolphins were acknowledged as being wise, and this one in particular had been his best friend for as long as he could remember. Her input meant something to him. No, it meant everything to him. With his best friend now sending him a wake up call, he would try. He would do his absolute best to overcome this flaw of his. Even it may in fact be his fatal one.
This personal endeavor would be his first important test, ever in his life. And with the gods as his witness, he would be made or broken by the results.
