FATAL FLAW: While his eyes are open Evan's fatal flaw is lust. As a son of Cupid his lust can be insatiable and unavoidably distracting.
When his eyes are closed and he is harnessing the powers of Justitia he is no longer subject to the above fatal flaw, but he gains a new one. In his blinded state the only emotion or sense he has is justice. The idea flows throughout his body and is the basis behind all of his decisions. This can lead to him having an unwillingness to make some harder decisions or to harshly hurt his enemies.
PREFERED WEAPON: Arcus and sagitta, Gladius/pugio.
ANYTHING ELSE: Everyone at Camp Jupiter has different talents, but Evan likes to think that his are among the most original. Most of his peers are legacies of respectable demigods or children of the gods themselves, few of them can claim to be both. As the son of Cupid Evan has a set of skills that would be considered strong among demigods of the Amores and Venus. Evan is about as good at charmspeak as some of Venus' best, his magical ability to seduce is unrivaled among mortals, he is naturally handsome, and he is an excellent archer. Although some people value these skills, they are not considered valuable amongst most Roman Legionnaires, but luckily for Evan he is favored by Cupid and his brothers. The god Anteros gave Evan an imperial gold weapon that is a pugio when his eyes are open and a gladius when his eyes are covered. Pothos gave him a flute that when played gives Evan even greater ability to manipulate people's romantic emotions. Himerus gave him a backpack that responds to Evan's thoughts and can sprout large white wings capable of carrying three times Evan's weight. Finally, Cupid himself gave his favored son an unbreakable arcus (bow) and a quiver that never empties and can supply the user with arrows tipped with imperial gold, celestial bronze, steel, or enchanted arrows that will make any being hit fall in love with the person Evan was thinking of when he shot the arrow. (The more powerful the being the shorter the affect, mortals may be affected for up to a week but an Olympian God for less than a minute.)
Even with those skills and tools Evan came under fire from more traditional Romans. He fought with a pugio and archery, that just isn't Roman. The abilities that Evan gained from his mother's family are much more Roman. When he is blinded folded Evan's mind and body are filled by the essence of Justitia, and all of his actions are made to be Just. During this state he loses all other senses, but his combat skills become extremely great and he is able to judge any situation or person according to Justice itself. This magical combative state is extremely pleasing to his Roman companions, but it comes with flaws. It is often difficult for Evan to get out of this state once the blindfold is on, but the older he gets the more he is able to control it. Also, he loses all of his abilities related to love, archery, and the only one of his magical items that works is his gladius. The extra speed, stamina, and strength result in exhaustion after they are used.

HISTORY:
The Jay family have long been the descendants of Justitia and since the early days of the Roman Empire they have strived for justice, except with several limitations. The majority of the Jay family legacies had been without abilities. During the Empire they were still commanders and politicians, but never considered heroes. A fraction of the men and women born in the family would be born or become blind at some point in their lives. These family members found that they were not disabled because a sense of Justice flowed throughout them that gave them uncanny combative skills, made up for their blindness, and gave them great legal wisdom.
The family followed the Gods as civilization moved, taking up residence in Great Britain, the early Southern United states, and eventually the US West Coast. During the early days of America Peter Jay, a merchant and non-gifted legacy, caught the eye of the Goddess Minerva. She loved his wit, and although he was married they had a child, John Jay. John's siblings were blind and gifted, so when he kept his sight all through his childhood it was assumed he would have no abilities. Eventually John displayed the wisdom and battle skills associated with the children of Minerva and he was sent off to Camp Jupiter.
While at Camp Jupiter John was thrown in to the first cohort even though his family was traditionally placed into the second. One day during a particularly vicious war game John found that his entire cohort had been captured and that he was surrounded, but from the sky came a blindfold that landed into his hands. Instinctively John placed the blindfold over his eyes, and found that his combat skills were greatly enhanced. Because of his new found skill set John one the war games, became centurion of his cohort, and eventually became a Praetor of the Twelfth Legion. After leaving the legion he went into politics, and eventually became the first Chief Justice of the United States.
After John Jay the Jay family was given access to the first cohort for all of its children whether they be blind or not. During the civil war the First Cohort was lead into battle by a blinded member of the Jay line, but when several of his cousins died in battle it became tradition to place the Jays who were normal in the second cohort.
Alicia Jay was a beautiful Eurasian girl who was born blind, but never dumb. She excelled during her time with the first cohort, but she was particularly known the possess a natural beauty. Cupid found himself attracted to the woman's outer beauty and intelligence, so he began to court her to see what it would be like to be judged by more than his appearance. Although Alicia knew that she was being courted by a minor God she never knew which one he was. Eventually she gave birth Evander, but the strain of the pregnancy resulted in her death.
Cupid and the Amores mourned the loss of Alicia and took the baby Evan to the Wolf House for Lupa to raise. Lupa decided against killing the child and raised him as one of her own. While their Evan learned to hunt, fight, and wrestle. It seemed to everyone that EVan was at a disadvantage when compared to the other children, but he persisted. On his tenth birthday Lupa cast him out of the Wolf House and told him that if he could survive on the route to Camp Jupiter than he deserve the blood of a god that flowed through his veins. She sent with him the letters of recommendation that came with being a member of the Jay family.
Evan found the trip to camp extremely difficult. It took him more than a month, and he found that it was hard for him to fight off the onslaught of monsters that came his way. At one point he found himself about to be killed by a gang of telekhines when the Amores came before him with their gifts. They explained to him that he had the potential to leave a mark on history and that he was stronger than he knew. After receiving the gifts Evan found the trip became easier. As he flew he found himself insight of the place he instinctively knew was hiding New Rome. The smile on his face spread in to the magical blessing of Cupid, who outfitted him with a white toga and made him look more gorgeous than he ever had. Unfortunately for Evan the Gods Formido and Timur caught sight of his beauty and decided that they wanted it for themselves. They descended upon Evan viciously right in front of the entrance to his sanctuary and despite all of his efforts to fight off the gods they managed to strip him naked and pin him to the ground. Just as Formido and Timur were about to put their ancient wrestling talents to use, a white blindfold descended upon Evan. It was engraved with the initials JJ, and when he placed the blindfold over his eyes Evan felt himself be taken over by his Justice state. In this state he found that he was no longer afraid of the two gods and that the injuries they had inflicted upon him no longer hurt. He was able to fight off Formido and Timur long enough to escape into the tunnel that led to New Rome.
Evan fainted after crossing the Little Tibur blindfolded, bloody, wet, and exhausted. A group on patrol found him their and dragged him to the praetors. Were spread fast around camp about the young boy who had been found naked outside blindfolded and showing obvious signs of sexual assault. So days later when Evan was brought before the Legion as a probation with great recommendation letters and having been claimed by Cupid, no one was willing to accept him. The pathetic way in which he had arrived, his unwillingness to speak of what had happened to him, and the fact that he walked around with a bow, quiver, dagger, and a flute, lead for people to call him a graecus. Fortunately for him, one of the Second Cohorts Centurions took pity upon him and accepted him into the cohort.
Evan's first year at camp did not go well for him. As an archer and dagger-fighter he was constantly mocked despite how skilled he was. For the first few years he blended in with the crows, refraining from using his magical items, from using his abilities, and especially from putting on his blindfold. The memory of his sexual assault made him timid, but he was able to meet the basic requirements necessary of legionnaires. It was until puberty hit, around the age of fourteen, that things changed for Evan.
During puberty Evan grew into a young man too gorgeous to go unnoticed, and of course he did not. Many students, male and female, became interested in Evan and once they began expressing this interest he became more confident as a whole. Through the use of his strengthening abilities over love and especially lust, Evan began to manipulate the people around him. During this time he became a dab hand at politics and charming the people around him. His gains in confidence lead to him taking a more active role in leading troops during battles, and to him using his magical objects on the battle field. His blindfold always remained unused, but it became a trademark symbol that always hung from his right pocket.
During the siege of Mount Othrys the Centurion who had taken Evan in was killed. Initially Evan tried to use his abilities to focus his cohort on the task at hand, but he watched as the second cohort began falling apart during the most important fight of any of their lives. Out of desperation Evan used his blindfolds for the second time in his life, and he became the ideal Roman warrior no one knew he was. Monsters fell before him left and right, and he found that he was extremely good at capturing the demigods who had sided with the Titans. After the battle was won the praetors attempted to have the traitorous demigods executed, but Evan in his blind state advocated fro more humane forms of punishment. The Second Cohort was so impressed by him that Evan was elevated to Centurion and given a seat on the Senate.
As centurion of the second cohort Evan continues to hone his leadership and battle skills. His magical abilities gained from his father continue to be unparalleled and he is more willing to don his blindfold. He finds that every time he uses the justice state he has more control over when to end it. According to some sources found at the University, his ancestor John Jay was able to induce the Justice state just by closing his eyes, in his older age, and Evan hopes that if he can master this it will help him to eventually became a praetor.
