Ever since the "merge", Andrew had been seeing so many new people, the old faces began to blend in. Less and less often did the son of Poseidon run into old friends of his, making the friendships mild at best. In his pseudo depression, that was the last thing he needed. So, he decided to plan to meet up with friends. One in particular was the most important to him. That was Palmer Canton. She was a daughter of Apollo, one who had only been at camp a short time, but they had become pretty good friends in that time. He had left a note for her at her cabin, and came out to the Aqueduct to wait for her.
With all the hustle and bustle around the camp, it was nice taking a step back and enjoying the view of the rest of the world. It was hard to believe that the Earth was literally against them, and that within a few months to a year, everything could be devastated. It was even harder to believe that in the face of all that, Andrew still only cared about so little. With the water beneath him, Andy began to manipulate waves out of it, even pulling some of it out of the water. It engulfed his hands and forearms, and he felt energized. It was a great feeling, as water always gave him.
Palmer had become a really good friend in a short time. The two got along, and one could even venture to label them best friends. They were as close to it as possible. They seemed to be able to tell each other everything. Well, almost everything. As close as they were, Andrew had yet to express some of his deepest insecurities. Including his sexuality. They had discussed, however, his "fatal flaw" of sorts. She had even tried to help him, but no progress had made as of yet. That was part of the reason he had asked her to meet him here. To help him in the way of his problems. If anyone could, she would.

* - - - - Being one of the newer kinds in the Apollo cabin meant that Palmer usually just followed her siblings around most of the time, took orders from them (although she hated that part), and rarely ventured off on her own. Of course, she had wandered the camp a few times by herself, how else would she meet new people? Today was just like any other day in the sense that she went along with whatever the rest of her brothers and sisters were doing. For fun a bunch of them had gone down to the forest to shoot a few arrows into trees and Palmer tagged along. Archery was something she enjoyed and she was good at. That was one thing that made her feel as though she belonged with that group of people.
Now they were all back at the cabin doing their own things. Palmer had changed into a tank top, sweat shirt, and a pair of shorts before grabbing her guitar and and sitting on her bed lightly strumming the strings. It wasn't long before one of her brothers flicked a piece of paper at her. Normal. Palmer unfolded it and read the words written by her friend Andrew. Typical Andrew to write a letter while she was out. Palmer just laughed to herself, shook her head, and threw the note away before getting up, slipping on her shoes, and heading out the door.
The walk to the Aqueducts didn't take too long. Palmer just hummed to herself almost the whole way there and time seemed to fly. Soon Andrew Shaw was in her line of sight playing with.. water. That always entertained Palmer. The way the water could be manipulated was entertaining, then again that could be the ADHD talking. Andrew was without a doubt one of Palmer's all time best friends, even including the human ones from back home. Even though she has only known him for a few months, he was someone she felt she could tell anything to and he wouldn't judge her for most of it. Truly a good friend.
Palmer kept walking the last few steps before she came up beside Andy and, without a word, put her hand into the water that was surrounding his hands and forearms. "Nice trick, show off." The words came with obvious sarcasm, something Palm tended to use a lot. Her eyes didn't move from the water. In a way you could say she was jealous of that little benefit to being a child of Poseidon's. Not jealous enough to do anything about it... it was more like she wished she could do that too. It was cool, there was no doubt about it.

The sound of rushing water combined with the intense focus Andrew was putting into the hydrokinesis allowed his friend to sneak up on him without trying. Until he saw her hand in the water and heard her voice, he had no idea she was even nearby. In shock, he lost his focus and the water fell back into its source. "Way to sneak up on me, Palm." His smirk faded and he gave his friend a hug. "How has this crazy new camp been treating you? I miss Half-Blood. Never thought I'd say that." As much as Camp Half-Blood had been a drag for him, at least he had felt comfortable there. Plenty of water all around, and while he knew the others weren't happy with him, their judgment meant they still cared on some level. Here, he knew they had given up on him. The worst feeling of all.
He glanced at his friend. She was a daughter of Apollo, and generally rolled with that crew. She was fond of archery, a training he had never really taken a custom to. "A little short on those shorts, don't you think? Those sons of Aphrodite might be a little forward if you keep showing that much skin." He laughed and winked at her. He could make jokes like that without fearing that she would assume flirtation, or so he hoped. It felt weird to have companionship. In the few weeks they'd been here, he'd stuck to himself for the most part. The rushing water below had been his main company.
"Palm, I don't know what's happening to me." His smile faded, and his deep blue eyes gazed at her. Serious was a side he rarely showed, but with Palmer, it was fine. "I want to be better. I want to strive to be a better hero. But I can't." Andrew sighed, and the water below seemed to slow down in accordance with his mood. "All I have is this water. And you. But even you have eased into the routine of the Romans." A gust of wind blew through the air, chilling him a bit. "I just don't know what to do anymore." The demigod looked down into the water again, but as down as he felt, even the sight of it couldn't regenerate him. This was probably the lowest he had felt in a long time.
"I'm sorry Palm, this is way too heavy to put on you right now. It's selfish of me." Rubbing his face, he turned back to her and tried to put on a stronger look. "How are you? Anything you need to unload?" It almost pained him to realize how he retreated from any seriousness in his life. Even a psychologist couldn't fix how emotionally screwed he was. Oh the hard life of a demigod.

* - - - - Once she touched the water that surrounded her friend's hand, it fell. She wasn't surprised that Andrew had broken his concentration, but in a way disappointed. She liked the things that the Poseidon kids could do; it was cool. She flashed a bright smile at her friend as she shrugged then hugged him back. After a long day of following people around, something Palmer found irritating, it was nice to come out here and be herself for a little while. "How has this crazy new camp been treating you? I miss Half-Blood. Never thought I'd say that." It wasn't that bad here. She barely knew anything else though. Palmer's eyes focused back on the water below and she just shrugged. In all honesty, it had been six, almost seven, months of this demigod stuff and Palm still hadn't fully adjusted. People constantly barking orders at her, expecting so much, and then expecting her to follow along with everything. That just wasn't how she was used to doing things. Back home she was independent after her annoying step sister left. It was her and her step dad and they rarely spoke to one another. Here was... different. The whole idea of here was different. She had a father out there, but she couldn't help but push the idea away. In her mind she had no father.
Palmer shrugged again before lifting her eyes. "It's alright I guess. Could be worse, right?" That was Palm, always on the positive side of things for the most part. "You don't like it here?" Her bright blue eyes went up at Andy before going back to the water.
"A little short on those shorts, don't you think? Those sons of Aphrodite might be a little forward if you keep showing that much skin." Palmer laughed and looked down at her short. "Shut up! Are they that bad?" She asked trying to pull down on her denim shorts.
Things soon got serious when Andy began talking about how he wanted to do better. He was comparing himself to her saying she had grown used to the Roman routine. The thing was, Palmer was faking most of it. In reality she was late to everything, got yelled at all of the time, and it seemed she could do nothing right except shoot an arrow. But this wasn't about her, it was about her friend. They were almost the same person when it came down to things and if Palmer could get through this whole camp thing, so could he. Andrew then ended asking if there was anything she needed to unload. Palm shook her head immediately as he spoke. "No no no don't turn the conversation just yet. Look, you are just as good as anyone here and you know that. Shut your mouth and make the best of this ridiculous situation." That was really the way Palmer felt about everything, including being here and finding out her father was from a story book. Well not really I guess. "Do I need to say more?"

Her eyes looked radiant. It was almost a shame he would never be sexually interested in her, because his great friend was absolutely gorgeous. Sometimes he found it hard to believe she was a daughter of Apollo, not Aphrodite. He watched her as she gazed down into the water again, and appreciated their relationship. In essence, they really needed each other, and it was remarkable that they met and have stayed friends. "I guess it's not too bad overall, I just feel like I'm being judged even more here. Not without reason, but the Roman culture is even more so opposite of me." It was nice, the camp. The Little Tiber was something he definitely appreciated, and while he knew there was judgment, nobody so far had outright been cruel to him.
Andrew laughed as he watched his teasing take its desired effect. Palmer started fidgeting with her shorts. "You know I'm just teasing you." He smiled and even chuckled a little, something that hadn't happened in far too long. With the impending apocalypse, nobody really had time for humor. Her laugh was reassuring too. "In spite of everything going on, you can still laugh and feel happy. That's probably my favorite part about you." She appreciated life.
Everything about Palmer was great, right down to her being a friend. She was always willing to listen to him no matter how whiny he was being. "Having the ability to be as good as anyone here and being as good are two wildly different things. Everyone is putting in so much effort and it shows. I'm just over here perfecting my water tricks that, in reality, aren't even too practical." He took a breathe, and saw the honesty and care in her eyes. "I know you think this situation is ridiculous, and you haven't really had the time most of us have to come to terms with being a demigod, but this is all one-hundred percent real. We are really facing the threat of fighting Mother Earth herself, along with her terrible Giants." The more he spoke, the more passionate he seemed to get, and he was really talking more to himself now than his friend.
She was reassuring though. Whenever he talked with her, he always felt more confident in himself. "I've been stupid. Surviving camp isn't really what's been bothering me. Subconsciously at least." Camp Jupiter was a hurdle compared to the mountainous obstacles they would be facing. "We are the last hope for life as we know it." The statement was powerful. Andrew said it with such truth and belief that the water below even seemed to react.
The demigod sighed and turned down to look at it. "It all is just too much to take in sometimes, you know?

* - - - - This place, this camp, this life, it all seemed unreal. To Palmer this was just another chapter. Nothing here mattered to her, she didn't always feel the need try hard, to perfect anything that she didn't care about. This whole thing was a dream that she hadn't woken up from. Sure there were things Palmer loved about being here. Her whole life she had wished she had siblings other than her slightly cruel step sister and now she had more siblings than she knew what to do with. Making friends was never a problem for her, but making good friends, like Andrew, was rare and she loved having him around this fantasy world with her. They could vent to each other, be one another's comic relief, and he would look out for her while she looked out for him. Having a friend like that was something Palmer never truly had back home.
Every once in a while Palmer would pull at her shorts and sweatshirt. She knew Andy was just teasing her, but still she felt the need to make them less short after that comment. "I like the water tricks." The words were spoken quietly, Palm didn't even care to look up from the water to see if they were even heard. The comment was irrelevant, yet true. Then he started talking about this generation being the last chance for life as we know it. As the words started coming out of his mouth Palmer lifted her head and turned her body to face him. She raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms waiting until he was done.
"It all is just too much to take in sometimes, you know?" Truth was, she knew. She didn't want to know any of it, she didn't know much, but she knew the basics of this whole ordeal. She nodded, her expression softened before she uncrossed her arms and slapped Andrew across the shoulder. "Do you realize how depressing you sound right now? Snap out of it!" This may come of as rude and insensitive but that was just Palmer. She wasn't saying anything in a rude manner, just honest. That was who she was.. a kid with no filter. "If you want to be better, try harder or fake it. That always works. But as for being all depressing and down... that's not helping you."
