Cassandra never liked being compared to her mother, or her grandmother. She hated for them to even be mentioned in her presence, but comparing her to one of the two was enough to make her want to shoot in arrow their way. Her day had been fine, she had been spending most of it in the Coliseum, shooting arrows at targets, an average day for her. She had left her hair and eyes the same color for once, which was quite a rarity for her. She rarely ever kept them in their natural states. They reminded her too much of her mother and grandmother’s, which to her, was like getting punched in the stomach each time she looked in the mirror. She just wanted to be her own person, be able to leave her mother and grandmother, leave the past in the past. But for Cassandra, she felt that that would never happen.
She had just hit the target with her arrow when she heard a few of boys talking toward the Entrance of the Arena. They struck a nerve inside of her when they brought up her grandmother, and again when they brought up how much she looked like her. She walked to the target, forcibly ripping out the arrow, not caring whether it came out whole or in several parts. She grabbed her bow and the rest of her arrows and walked out of the arena, giving the boys who were talking at the entrance a glare before walking past them. She needed somewhere away from all of these people. All of them. She wanted to just grow wings and fly away, to a place where, for once, she could be her own person, not someone who everyone compared her to her grandmother.
She kept walking and walking until she finally stopped. She looked around twice, and when she was sure no one else was around, she dropped her bow and arrows onto the ground carelessly. Anger was the only feeling she had at that moment, and her rage burned inside of her. She sat on the ground for a few moments before lying down completely on the ground. She looked up into the sky, thinking of the gods for a few moments. She hated them, she hated them all. They never gave their children a chance to be their own people, never. They were simply miniatures of their parents, imperfect miniatures. She closed her eyes, trying to change her thoughts. She would have liked nothing better than to just disappear at the moment. Just disappear completely, who would miss her? No one, she thought to herself. No one because my family is self-absorbed, they care only about themselves. Any kind memory she had of her half-aunts and uncles disappeared in that moment. She sighed lightly, just wishing for a distraction. NOTES: Oh this will be fun <3 WORD COUNT: 473 TAG: Kane

* - - - - Today had been one of the better days here at Camp Jupiter. Not that this place was terrible or anything, but it wasn't like Half-Blood. There were similarities.. but nothing that was in-your-face obvious. It was weird though. For a place Kane thought he would hate, it turned out to be okay. Well.. bearable. All he had done today was train and train and train some more. At this point he couldn't look at another sword or shield without wanting to kill someone. Not literally kill, but you get the point. Kane had left everything at the ship and come back to the Field of Mars as an attempt to get away from the Roman lifestyle of train and train. Was Half-Blood like this as well? Maybe it wasn't as obvious.
This space away from the camp, from the ship, was a nice little get away. He was just walking mindlessly trying to find a decent spot to sit in the grass. It was nice to be able to be alone after a long day. He didn't have any problems with being antisocial or anything, it's normal to want to just sit for a few hours, right?
In the distance, his eyes caught sight of a girl laying in the grass. Her bow and arrow on the ground with her. Kane wasn't exactly sure about what to think of this, if was was hurt, asleep, upset? Putting the idea that she was dead aside, Kane walked the few feet to where the girl was. He was standing beside her head and looking down at her quizzically. "Hey. You okay?" The words hadn't even crossed his mind, they just sort of came out. She was defiantly alive and breathing, didn't look in pain, she was probably here for the same reason he was. To get away. His eyes remained on the girl laying below him. He hadn't seen her before, though that meant nothing. Then again it could mean that she was one of those obnoxious Romans. She can't be one of them. Was his first thought. He took a few steps back allowing her room to sit up or get up if she wanted, but he could still see her from where he stood.

Cassandra was enjoying just lying there. She wasn’t sure how much time passed, but it truly didn’t matter to her as she tried as hard as possibly to clear her mind. The silence was doing wonders for it, she was happy to be away from the campers from her own camp, not that she wasn’t usually like that to begin with. At that moment it was very true, and slowly, her anger began to slip away as she calmed herself down. Though, had someone seen her at that moment, they more than likely would have guessed she was sleeping, though she was wide awake the entire time, as thoughts bounced through her head.
Cassandra hadn’t heard any noise for a while, so when she heard footsteps, she let it go for the first few seconds as they seemed to be far off, though you could never judge with just one of your senses. She was caught off guard when she heard someone speak, more than likely to her. She opened her eyes, looking up to see someone she didn’t know, not that that was much of a rarity. Ever since the Greeks had come to Camp Jupiter in their ship, she felt that she rarely knew anyone anymore. Though plenty of people still seemed to know her, which discouraged her enough. She looked at the boy for a moment, before sitting up. “I’m fine, thank you for asking though.” She said, a small smile playing on her lips at that moment. She reached to her hair, absent mindedly fixing it somewhat so it wasn’t such a mess later. She could be friendly when she wanted too, sometimes she wondered if she didn’t have more in common with the Greeks than the Romans themselves.
She looked down beside her, seeing her bow and arrow, frowning for only a second thinking of the incident that had occurred earlier. She reached over to them, quickly organizing them. After this she glanced back up to him, thinking of what to say. He had to be a demigod, she knew that from the beginning, and she doubted he meant her any harm, so she was generally calm when she said “Feel free to sit down if you want to, or do whatever you want to at least. Sorry if I was in your way.”. After a few moments she realized she hadn’t introduced herself, and decided that might be for the best at that moment, deciding to add on to her statement, “..oh and I’m Cassandra Black by the way.” At that moment, any thoughts of her grandmother and mother slowly made there way to the back of her mind as she tried to deal with the task at hand. * - - - - The girl on the ground gave a quick response, and Kane stepped back and nodded. Recently he began thinking that everyone greeted one another by snapping passive aggressive comments at each other. When she spoke it was nice, smooth, kind. Not exactly what he had expected, then again he didn't expect much. If she hadn't answered he would've kept walking. This girl was no chip off of his shoulder.
She remained on the ground, organizing her things. Kane just stood and watched. When she offered for him to sit he flashed her a smile and nodded. Having someone to talk to rather than sitting alone tying blade of grass into knots seemed like a better way to kill time. She then apologized if she was in his way. He couldn't help but let himself quietly laugh at the comment. His eyes shifted around the large, open area. "You weren't in the way at all. If I wanted to pass you, there's plenty of space." Had his tone not been light and joking one could've taken the comment as an insult. But Kane never meant for it to be like that. He was just kidding around.
She introduced herself in a way that struck him as odd. Kane was an observant person for the most part and rarely missed things out of the ordinary. What he had come to notice here was that everyone introduced themselves using a sort of formula. First name. Last name. Parent. End of story. Though this girl, Cassandra, only gave her name. Not that Kane found that to be a horrible thing, it was just different, she was different. He didn't mind not being judged by who his mother was. Again, no chip off of his shoulder.
"Kane Hunter." Again he spoke with a friendly smile. His eyes stayed forward, looking off into the trees for no apparent reason. Cassandra. The name rolled through his brain keeping the girl beside him in his thoughts. How she had looked when she was laying in the grass, the way she offered for him to sit, and how he and never seen or heard of her before. Well, that's not true.. he had heard that name before from people talking about her. Kane had never actually seen her though, he would have remembered that. He remembers almost everything. Kane tore himself away from his own thoughts and turned his head, "So Cassandra, what are you doing out here all alone?" The question was nothing uncommon or even interesting for that matter. That is unless she had a nice story to go with her reason, which was highly unlikely. It was just something to get a conversation started, that was all.

Meeting someone new was always an excellent way to get your mind off of a situation, especially if you were enjoying the company. He seemed like a nice enough person, that was one of the only reasons she offered to let him sit next to her. She smiled whenever he nodded, and accepted her offer.
When he laughed lightly at her apology for possibly being in the way, she took it like a grain of salt. You could never let things get underneath your skin, because once they knew what did, there were always people that would torment you endlessly and mercilessly. She would never let that happen to her, so when he laughed at her apology, which didn’t bother her in the least, she just let it slide off. More than likely, she thought, he’s laughing at the stupidity of the comment itself. Whenever he responded she couldn’t help but laugh a bit herself. She could take a joke, and in fact, she liked how calm some of these Greek demigods were. At Camp Jupiter, it was almost like you weren’t a person anymore, more of a war machine. She liked the almost laid back nature of these demigods, almost as if they weren’t waiting for another impending war that was always looming in the back of her own mind. She missed jokes, and she was glad to hear one. She smirked lightly saying, laughing lightly as she did, “True, very true.” .
She didn’t think much of the way she introduced herself. Around Camp Jupiter, before the Greeks had come, most people knew a name and a parent, but not necessarily a face, and Cassandra hadn’t fully transitioned to immediately saying who her godly relative was. She had no hard feelings about admitting that her grandmother was Venus, as much as she hated the goddess, blood was blood, and she was her grandmother.
When he introduced himself she took a second to remember his name, Kane Hunter. She had never heard of it, but once again, this wasn’t uncommon. She noticed his friendly smile, and how he looked at the trees. Out of curiosity mostly, she followed his gaze for a moment before turning back to him, having found nothing of interest in the trees themselves. Whenever he asked why she was out in the field all alone, she thought truthfully for a moment, the current situation almost completely causing her to forget her reasoning for leaving the coliseum in the first place. After only a few moments she responded simply “Just needed to clear my head in all honesty. What about you? What brings you out Kane?”. She glanced at him once more, trying to think of who his godly parent could be and a question left her lips before she had truly thought about it, “Do you mind me asking who your godly parent is?”

* - - - - Meeting new people had to be at the top of the list for worlds most awkward situations. People judged, over analyzed, and couldn't just accept the fact that they are adding yet another person into their lives. As kids people seem to get along better and make new friends without all of the drama. Take kindergarten for example. On the playground you didn't have to know one person and within an hour you were a part of a soccer team. That was back when the only thing there was to worry about was the dreaded crayon thief. Why couldn't things get easier rather than the other way around? Human or demigod, both had problems with meeting people. Granted with a demigod the problems rise due to a fear that a life could be lost. With these two camps in one it was even more difficult to meet people. Everyone was always questioning one another, looking for a reason to hate. Kane was one of those people who judged and hated but sitting here with Cassandra was like being back in kindergarten. He didn't judge her, he didn't want to find a reason to hate her. She seemed nice enough when she offered for him to sit.
Kane had this problem with acting through emotions rather than logically. He hated Romans no matter what. Emotion. In reality there were some that were totally normal and not exactly "hate-able" but did that matter to him? No. He usually works off of first impressions and whatever judgments he can think of on the spot. Kind of a problem. His mind had skipped over making conclusions about Cass, it wasn't like she was one of those stuck up Romans. How could she be? She seemed nice, laid back, and generally just not like them.
After he spoke the girl had responded with a rather reasonable and expected reason as to why she was here. He couldn't help but allow himself to smile. What was there to keep a straight face about? "Same." He shrugged and let his gray-ish eyes move to the bow on the ground beside her. "You take your bow to relax with you?" The question was said because Kane hadn't thought anything through. He hadn't expected an answer to be honest. It was a comment with a question mark at the end.
He let his eyes go back to Cassandra before dropping them to the grass. One of his legs remained straight in front of him while the other was bent. One arm rested on his knee while he pick grass with the other. ADHD.. there was nothing to really be done without it; he was constantly in some kind of motion. When she asked who his parent was Kane looked up again before he spoke, still messing with the grass as well. "My mom is Athena. How about you? Wait let me guess--" He shifted his weight to the side as if to get a better look at her. It took him a moment to respond before coming up with nothing. "Nevermind. I give up." He laughed and shook his head. "I've never been very good at guessing." She looked like an Aphrodite child, then again she could be Hermes or Hephaestus. That's why he surrendered, he didn't want to guess wrong.

Cassandra hadn’t been much of a social person as of late, in fact, she was hardly ever social while she was at Camp Jupiter. Unless she was having a conversation with her aunts and uncles, particularly her aunt Lane, she rarely struck up a conversation with anyone. She always felt a little distant from them all, having hated the gods in their whole entirety rather than exactly liking them like it seemed that most of the camp did. She never truly embraced her grandmother’s relation to her, and in fact, if it was even possible, she would rather be completely human than the forth god she was. At the moment though, she was enjoying getting to talk to someone where the other person wasn’t either at her throat, or they were at hers, it was somewhat peaceful getting away from that side of life at camp which had become quite a regular occurrence.
She smirked whenever he asked if she brought her bow with her when she relaxed. She shook her head lightly, deciding not to answer that, to her; it seemed more like a comment than anything. She hadn’t really thought about bringing her bow when she had come out to the field itself, she had just wanted to get out of the coliseum, and getting away from everyone had been her main focus, everything else had felt trivial at that specific moment. She realized how odd it might look to have her bow with her when she was relaxing, she couldn’t help but let out a little laugh at this.
Whenever he responded with his mother’s name, she realized what she had thought was true, he was a Greek camper. She thought for a few moments, trying to decipher through her jumbled head what Athena’s Roman aspect was. It was so odd that all of the gods she had known had two different names, and it was enough to give her a head ache while she tried to remember who was who during a conversation. After a few moments she finally managed to remember who she knew Athena as, Minerva. His mother was Minerva, the goddess of wisdom. She looked at him once more, realizing some familiar features that he and the children of Minerva at Camp Jupiter shared. Though his mother was Athena, she would have to remember that. Sometimes she wondered if knowing both aspects of the gods themselves was worth it or not, but at the moment she would try to keep them straight. While she deciphered who his mother was in her mind she heard him say he was going to guess who her godly relative was. She felt a little relieve wash over her whenever he gave up and said he was no good at guessing. She would rather tell someone who her godly parent was than have them guess, a personal pet peeve of hers. She responded without truly thinking it over,“Aphrodite.”. For the first few moments after her response she didn’t realize her mistake, the Greek and Roman aspect’s name floating through her head all at once seemingly let her miss her slip up for a short while.

* - - - - Aphrodite. So his first mental guess had been correct. That's what she looked like though, it was slightly obvious. Slightly only because looks can be deceiving. Take himself as an example, he didn't look that much like a child of Athena at all, yet his blood sad otherwise. She had the features of the Aphrodite people he had met in the past. By features I mean she was attractive. They all were and there was not getting around that. Roman or Greek every child of Aphrodite, or Venus as the Romans called her, was stunning in one way or another. Not saying that looking at them meant love at first sight, and that didn't mean that he was suddenly in love with Cassandra, he just thought she was pretty. Well, really pretty. And nice. That was the other thing that had caught his attention. Those few words she first said to him gave the perfect first impression.
Thank the gods she was Greek as well. For some reason he would never be able to look at her the same had she been a Roman. He hated them with a passion. Though he was rational (sometimes) and didn't always express his hatred, the emotion was still inside him, controlling him and his actions.
The two had been sitting there for a short amount of time before Kane realized he was supposed to be meeting a few of his siblings a the Coliseum in a few minutes. They had been planning a miniature tournament between each other just for fun and games for a while and Kane couldn't skip it. He had promised to be there. His eyes that were focused on the ground shut as Kane tilted his head back. "Ugh I totally forgot I was supposed to be at the Coliseum right now." Disappointment laced his words as he lifted himself off of the ground. "It was really nice meeting you. I'm so sorry I have to leave in such a rush. You're welcome to come by if you want. We are just doing a little pretend tournament with a few of my brothers and sisters." The offer was real and it stood. It was genuine, every part of what he said. He did like meeting her, in fact he hoped to see her again sometime. She was welcome to come if she wanted, and he really was sorry for shortening their time together.
